I am actually getting nervous about the Chinese response to the Pope's letter, even though I have no idea what the letter says nor the response. I am scouring the internet looking for any hint of anything to come. I don't know what I'm afraid of, except maybe somehow us foreigners won't be or feel welcome at my Chinese parish or any Chinese parish. Many days that church is the only thing that keeps me positive about being here in China. The liturgy leaves me energized, and my friends there remind me that not everyone in Shenzhen is only interested in hookers and/or shopping.
Via Amy, the letter will be published at noon, Rome time. I think that is 6 pm here?
